20 16 12 6 Spots Available
Grab your gnarly car, your neon shades, feather back your hair or coif your mullet because we're headed "Back to the Future" for a totally rad 80's-themed Maverick Road Rally experience!
That’s right dude (or dudette)....you heard right!
You remember the 80’s, right? Big hair, acid washed jeans, leg warmers, mullets? Exactly and we’re bringing it back for this exclusive road rally!
Of course as a Maverick event this isn’t JUST a straight trip up the coast because you’ll be using a GPS, solving intricate clues and videoing parts of it for points along the way. Think Amazing Race combined with Da Vinci Code and stir in a little 'YouTube' for good measure.
Here’s how it’ll work: Each day there will be a new adventure starting with your first clue in the morning leading you to your classified route and "80’s missions" to record. Each mission has a point value assigned to it and like a 'video' scavenger hunt you’ll have to decide which item you want to capture on film to win the rally. But the only points you are credited for is if you film your mission on tape. The competition-o-rama is going to be fierce for each 2-person car competing for cheesy (yet wonderful) 80’s prizes.
Don’t worry you’ll be equipped with GPS and Flip Cameras (even though they didn’t exist in 1985!)
Starting in a mystery location around Los Angeles, CA we’ll motor up the coast to Big Sur, San Francisco and then finally arriving in Napa Valley, CA.
Business Icon Guest: John Paul DeJoria
We’ll start off Day One with our special business icon, John Paul, or J.P. as his friends call him, who holds the rank of #261 on Forbes list of World’s Richest with an estimated $2.5B net worth. J.P. will be joining us on this first leg of the rally from Los Angeles and sharing his incredible rags-to-riches story.
He’s the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Hair Care Systems and Patron Spirits Company however he started with incredibly modest beginnings...
The son of immigrant parents from Italy and Greece learned the value of hard work early in life. John Paul and his brother would get up at three in the morning to fold and deliver newspapers doing their part to help support the family while they were both still in grammar school. At a very young age, he spent time in the company of a street gang in East Los Angeles, then enrolled in the U.S. Naval Reserve while still in high school and after graduation, joined the Navy with aspirations of attending dental school. Although discharged with honors, that turned out to be not an alternative financially.
Soon thereafter, an early but brief marriage left DeJoria a single father with a young son to support. He took on an assortment of odd jobs to make ends meet — everything from pumping gas, repairing bicycles and working as a janitor to honing his sales skills by selling encyclopedias, photocopying machines, dictating equipment and even life insurance.
This was a particularly trying time for DeJoria. While still in his early twenties and too proud to ask for help, he found himself homeless on more than one occasion. Then in 1971, he knew he'd met his calling when he accepted a position at Redken Laboratories, the leading professional hair salon product company in the U.S. at the time, on a starting salary of only $650 a month.
The real turning point came when DeJoria joined forces with his friend, Paul Mitchell, then one of American's most influential hair designers. Together they bankrolled the company on the borrowed sum of $750 to introduce their revolutionary sculpting lotions, hair setting and styling methods. Even today's well-known image of black and white packaging is the result of those early days of not being able to afford colored ink.
According to DeJoria, the company was extremely lucky to make it through that very tough first year when it should have went bankrupt 50 different times. Today, John Paul Mitchell Systems empires surpasses $1B in sales each year.
His charitable philosophy of "Success unshared is failure," has been responsible for donating millions of dollars and being personally involved in numerous philanthropic adventures on the frontlines.
You’ll finish Day One amongst the green and gold flowered hills of the rugged Big Sur Coast. Our stopping point is the Ventana Inn & Spa - a magnificent Central Coast California resort.
Nestled on a hillside overlooking the dramatic Pacific coastline, Ventana Inn is a luxurious Big Sur resort. Located on 243 acres in the heart of Big Sur, the Inn's unique one-and two-story buildings blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings. Relax poolside, soak in Japanese hot baths or just contemplate the sky from your own private hammock.
The Ventana Inn is also a ‘field trip’ of sorts because this is the first of two Joie de Vivre hotel properties you’ll be staying at. That’s important because our second business icon is Chip Conley, the CEO of Joie de Vivre. (More in a moment about Chip.)
Then once we hit Northern CA the adventure is taken to a whole new level with an exclusive ride onboard the largest airship in the world, the 246-foot long Zeppelin (one of only 3 operating in the world!).
The airship is 15 feet longer than a Boeing 747, and 50 feet longer than the largest blimp currently operating.
It’s been decades since an airship floated over the U.S. and now you’ll be one of the very first to experience it again. Powerful engines, state-of-the-art avionics, and fly-by-wire flight controls enable the airship to perform maneuvers similar to those performed by helicopters, including vertical takeoffs and landings.
After the Zeppelin experience you’ll arrive at our second Joie de Vivre property, the luxurious, Hotel Vitale. Situated on the revitalized Embarcadero Waterfront it’s directly across from the historic Ferry Building Marketplace, San Francisco's gourmet destination.
Business Icon Guest #2: Chip Conley
Founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality and Author, PEAK: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow
At the age of 26 with no industry experience, Chip created The Phoenix, taking a 1950’s seedy motel and turning it into a world-renowned "rock ‘n roll hotel" that catered to celebrities from David Bowie to Linda Ronstadt. Building on transformational leadership practices, and an innovative design formula that enables customers to experience an "identity refreshment," the company now consists of over 40 unique and award-winning hotels, restaurants and spas across the state with over 3,000 employees and revenues approaching $250 million.
Chip will be joining us for a discussion around the concepts from his latest book, PEAK: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow. Personally I’ve read this book several times and inside he shares his unique prescription for success based on the iconic Hierarchy of Needs. His new theory illustrates how Employees, Customers and Investors are ultimately motivated by peak experiences.
Day Three: Napa Valley
Finally, our capstone to this remarkable EPIC experience is a VIP behind-the-scenes experience at one of Napa Valley’s most in-demand vineyards with the actual owners and wine makers.
You’ll get to sample some of the best-of-the-best ‘cult’ wines like Screaming Eagle, Colgin, Harlan and more. These bottles sell for $500.00 - $2000.00+ per bottle…if you can even find them. In fact, there is a waitlist to get on the ‘wait list’ just to buy any of this wine you’ll be enjoying.
You’ll get to savor an incredible wine tasting dinner hosted by Hal Oates from Porthos.com, the wine concierge for Neiman Marcus and Andrew Harper Hideaway Report.
But the best part of the night will be having every team screen the footage taken from flip cameras on the Road Rally video guaranteeing lots of ‘Maverick Moments’ and rollicking laughs.
Breakthrough Business Sessions
Even with laughs, missions and 80’s theme – you’ll still in for a serious ROI from our Maverick Business sessions:
What’s Meeting The Right Person Mean To You?
"...Everything in this world is about return on investment, and this is the ultimate…millions and millions will be made and have been made with connections with Maverick Business Adventures, and on top of that, you have the time of your life, and you go on vacation with the coolest people in the world. The total that I got from meeting just 2 guys on these trips was worth $283,000 to me. So I think I’m paid from Maverick until the year 2416, I think. It’s definitely been well worth it for me." — Mike Filsaime, NY (Online Business)
"... putting a deal together and made over $7,000,000 in sales in a month. That just doesn’t happen every day. " — Brad Fallon, Atlanta, GA, (eCommerce Expert)
Optional: Young Entrepreneurs Session
As a Maverick member you’ll have the opportunity to take part in an optional session set aside for teaching young and aspiring entrepreneurs during the Totally 80’s Road Rally experience. In fact, it’s this unique "giving forward" aspect that many members love the most.
The benefits from impacting just one student are immeasurable. I wish you were with us in Aspen, CO because you would have met 12-year old Garrett, who already has a little online business going. He was just one of about 70 young students in the audience.
If you were there, you would have seen the light bulbs going off in Garrett’s head, while furiously scribbling notes, as members shared their real-world entrepreneurial advice and stories. It was incredibly gratifying walking out knowing we made a potentially profound difference in a few lives there - one that might even be the catalyst for a bigger future than these students ever imagined. In fact, here’s part of the letter we received from 12-year old, Garrett’s mother:
Lifetime Memories Way Beyond Your Trip
Imagine the reaction your friends will have when you come back and show them your incredible experience.
Plus, you’ll also get recordings from the business-side of the trip. You’ll get the "What’s working" idea sharing sessions and the bonus session with the High-Profile business guest recordings. This exclusive information will be something you can return to over and over again and share with your team to grow your bottom line!

Additional Q & A
Q. Can a spouse or companion come?
A. Yes. But only if they are part of the adventure they will need to pay the same price for the trip but they will not need to pay for the membership initiation. We cannot accommodate spouses or companions for the social functions for the Road Rally because we are moving from location to location each day.
Q. What kind of shape do I need to be in to participate?
A. As long as you are in moderate shape this adventure should not be a problem. As with any activity -- it's a good idea to check in with your physician.
Q. Should I drive a car from 80’s? Do you provide a car for me?
A. Your experience fee does not include a car – you can bring your own or rent one. We will provide you with assistance for shipping cars or renting. Plus, we’re working on sourcing places for you to rent iconic cars from the 80’s. Imagine rolling in a DeLorean, the A-Team Van, Knight Rider, Miami Vice white Ferrari and more.
Q. Should I dress 80’s?
A. Absolutely! Not only are there totally tacky 80’s prizes for the top scoring teams on the video scavenger hunt missions – but there are prizes for best 80’s spirit too! So go ahead and break out your member’s only jacket, roll-up your jeans and enjoy the era of big hair once again without remorse.
